Made in italy luxury brand and sustainable furniture: Living Italian Luxury is furniture and design company

Living Italian Luxury (LIL) carries forward the family’s craftsmanship in creating bespoke furniture and breath-taking interiors that have been made in Italy since 1940, offering a turnkey service.

Gabriele Boga, managing director and third generation of the family, explains how a typical project works to FOUR.

TELL US ABOUT A RECENT INTERIOR PROJECT…

LIL typically works with international customers from over 20 countries. Last year, we had a client who decided to buy a house on a hilltop in Tuscany, which was redesigned and entirely furnished with our custom made furniture with a staggering result

WHY DO YOU THINK THE CLIENT CHOSE LIVING ITALIAN LUXURY?

They chose us because of our 80-plus years of expertise, because of our attention to detail, and because we are the only company that provides luxurious and sustainable furniture. It was paramount for our client that the interiors reflected their success in life, and it needed to tell a story they could proudly share with friends and guests. They were looking for something distinctive and different from traditional renowned furniture brands, and they quickly realized we were different. Every product of ours tells a unique story that creates an emotional connection, and they fell in love with this. Just to give an example, in this project, the dining chairs and sofa were upholstered with a special vegan leather made from apples from Trentino in Italy to ensure cruelty-free products instead of using traditional animal leather. We also upholstered an armchair in the living room with a special python finish that provided a tactile accent, still made from vegan apple leather – something very special. This shows LIL’s extensive material research and development to reduce its environmental impact whilst creating striking effects. Another example is the kitchen doors made from 300-year-old wood obtained from old mountain cabins, which were paired with kitchen countertops made from travertine marble locally sourced from Tuscany.

WHAT WERE OTHER REMARKABLE FEATURES OF THIS PROJECT?

Our client was looking for both rural and urban styles. The perfect blend of these styles was reached by combining finishes with a more urban accent, like hand-welded Corten steel in the kitchen island, with other more rustic finishes made from raw veneer wood. In every room, the design was balanced to meet the desired look and create a sense of harmony that favoured natural light and colour contrasts. To create a glamorous style, we also added a fully refurbished antique Indian door installed on a modern glass door and a collector’s armchair made in burnt wood – a special woodwork technique that originated in Japan in the 18th century that has been mastered by our family since 1960. It’s also important to balance fashionable design with functional features; thus, in the living room, we built an integrated video and audio system so our clients could enjoy a football match on a projector screen on a special day, whereas on a more typical day, they could simply watch TV on a screen behind the projector. In addition, within the same system, we added an integrated desk that allows them to have quick conference calls when needed. Lastly, to create a home that was a work of art, paintings and statues from our family art foundation were provided.

HOW WAS THE PROCESS MANAGED

The first step was an online meeting with our clients to understand their needs and wants. We had further touchpoints where we got to know them personally. It was crucial to creating a truly personal home that embraced our client’s lifestyle with the interior design; hence we needed to know them. We also visited the building site, created mood boards, and worked extensively on floor plans, furniture design, and furniture selection. We also leveraged our robots to show them furniture solutions without them needing to travel. Once good progress was made, we organized a full day with our clients to visit us. They had an immersive experience in our showroom which spans over 10,000 square meters, where we got everything ready for them to finalize the decisions about style, furniture, and finishes. They were literally blown away and very satisfied with working with us.
